Advancing the chemical revolution.

For a better tomorrow.

greenCHEM is inspired by a sustainable future for our material world and is devoted to the transformation of the chemical industry.

Our mission is to create an ecosystem of innovation, which unfolds sustainability impact that is routed in green chemistry. Characterized by an open culture and equipped with necessary technical infrastructure, we foster technology transfer as well as the realization of creative, forward-thinking ideas.

In our vision, we see chemistry practices, where renewable and non-toxic resources are the norm, chemical products fit into the circular economy and are biodegradable. Our vision extends to bringing about societal change through education, awareness, and by inspiring a new generation of chemists committed to environmental stewardship.

Our
Services

  • The “Research Push” area empowers research practitioners and innovators, from students and PhDs to professors, to transfer research results into beneficial applications for society. greenCHEM pioneers targeted formats that enable the research community to utilize the broader potential of their knowledge and findings. This leads to innovative technologies that are pushed into the market with game-changing potential. Through greenCHEM, lab infrastructure and analytics is made available for green chemistry pre-foundation and spin-out teams.

  • In the "Industry Pull" area, real challenges from industry, which arise from the market's growing sustainability awareness, are the nucleus of innovations efforts. Close collaboration with industry ensures that the transfer activities are tailored to the current sustainability challenges of established companies with scalable potential. The goal is to work together to accelerate the pace that future green chemistry technologies are implemented into a company, with benefits for the company, the environment and society.

  • greenCHEM is actively working to update chemistry curricula to incorporate the crucial paradigm shift of green chemistry. Along with this, transferable entrepreneurial skills are promoted to create future scientists with a vision to also become innovators. This is urgently needed for future generations of chemists and is in response to calls from the student body to link their education in chemistry to the grand challenges of society that their generation is facing.

  • The greenCHEM target area of further education aims to enhance the knowledge set of existing chemical industry workforces, upgrading traditional chemistry education with up-to-date ideas rooted in the principles of green chemistry. Positive environmental impact is essential and must happen fast, therefore greenCHEM promotes the future-proofing of the chemical industries, by opening up to innovation, entrepreneurship and sustainability.

  • While greenCHEM works to motivate a chemical revolution towards environmental protection and sustainability through innovation and collaboration with industry, parallel stakeholder engagement work promotes the necessary dialogue to steer new solutions along a path of shared understanding with the public, private and state actors involved.
