Chemistry Career Talks #4
Green Chemistry Paths
In this event we bring together a diverse panel of professionals who have taken different paths in the field of chemistry. This event isn’t just about the struggles of entrepreneurship—it’s about the challenges and lessons learned across various roles in green chemistry.
Why Attend?
Varied Perspectives: Hear from a mix of chemists with diverse career paths about the realities of working in green chemistry.
Honest Conversations: Our panelists will share their stories, focusing on the setbacks and challenges they’ve faced along the way.
Network with Purpose: Connect with others who are interested in or working within the green chemistry space.
Speakers
Academia: Prof. Dr. Michael Boydjs (Humboldt Universität zu Berlin)
Michael J. Bojdys is a visiting professor of chemistry at Humboldt University in Berlin and co-founder of the start-up team MANA.energy. His research combines sustainable materials chemistry with technology transfer and entrepreneurship. He coordinates two international and interdisciplinary projects such as SuperFlexEl (printable energy storage), BioAcc (global biotech innovation network), and BioBlock (European open innovation consortium). With hands-on experience in applied research, patenting, spin-off strategies, and team building, he inspires the next generation of chemists to embrace entrepreneurship as a key competence in green chemistry and materials science.
Entrepreneur: Dr. Juanjiangmeng Du (Molecular Garden, HUB EGS Team)
Juanjiangmeng Du is a scientist turned founder and is part of the greenCHEM community. With a career rooted in biotech, she is passionate about translating scientific discoveries into business innovations. She believes green chemistry is a key not only to addressing today’s environmental challenges but also to leading the path toward a sustainable future.
Think Tank: Dr. Max Milewski (Kompetenzzentrum Klimaschutz in energieintensiven Industrien (KEI))
Since 2024, Max Milewski has been working in the Think Tank and Strategic Projects team at the Competence Center for Climate Protection in Energy-Intensive Industries (KEI), promoting the decarbonization/defossilization of energy-intensive industries—in a practical, scientifically sound manner and with a clear goal: to understand sustainability as a factor in competitiveness and innovation.
Editor: Dr. Anne Nijs (Wiley)
Anne Nijs is a chemist and publishing professional passionate about advancing the global chemistry community. Since 2024, Anne has served as Managing Editor of Chemistry Europe, the high-impact, Gold-Open-Access flagship journal of the association. She also represents Wiley on the Board of InChI, contributing to the development of open chemical identifiers and standards. With her background in chemistry and scholarly publishing, Anne combines scientific expertise with a passion for fostering innovation and collaboration across the global research community.
